200 boarding schools under KPM will be equipped with CCTV
KOTA BHARU, 4 September (named) – A total of 200 boarding schools under the Ministry of Education (MOE) will nationally be equipped with a closed circuit camera (CCTV) in the near future with the allocation of RM3 million.
Director of Education Dr. Mohd Azam Ahmad said the move was to improve the safety of students in schools, especially in the dormitory.
“The CCTV installation will be carried out in stages based on the needs and number of students in schools.
“The big hostel with many students will be a criterion for the first,” he told reporters after opening the 63rd Malaysian School Principal Education Management Conference here today.
Mohd Azam said that management will look for expert advice for the CCTV installation location in the dormitory.
“We cannot install like in the toilet and so on. We don’t want their privacy to be disturbed.
Mohd Azam said that in addition to the installation of CCTV, he also plans to increase the boarding warden as a result of a proposal from the main council that will be brought to the ministry level.
“For the sake of student safety, the government and Moe will work hard. So far, there is no planning to take military or police retirees (as a warder), but we see the dormitory at the school of an educational institution, so that the warden among teachers is very important.
“When the warden is among the teachers, they can plan educational activities for students. There are also suggestions for these guards to teach four to five times a week and other students in the dormitory,” he said.
