The issue of joint development in the Sulawesi Sea is still in the conversation – Wisma Putra

Kuala Lumpur – There is no agreement that has been resolved by Malaysia and Indonesia about the possibility of joint development between the two countries in the Sulawesi Sea so far.

According to Wisma Putra’s statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra), said the problem was still in the initial discussion stage.

In addition, Malaysia remains committed to protecting sovereignty, sovereignty and interests in line with the UN legal convention (Kuul 1982).

“Every discussion about the above matters is carried out through diplomatic, legal and technical mechanisms determined in the existing two-way framework.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to work together with all stakeholders, including the Sabah government, to ensure that Malaysian interests are maintained and protected.

“Malaysia refers to the maritime region which includes the ND6 and ND7 blocks located on the new map of Malaysia in 1979 as the Sulawesi Sea instead of” Amalat “as used by Indonesia.

“The Decree of the International Courts (ICJ) in 2002 which decided that the sovereignty of Sipadan and Ligitan also further strengthened the establishment of Malaysia in the State Maritime Region in the Sulawesi Sea.

“This was explained by Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Foreign Minister in the House of Representatives on August 5, 2025, to answer questions raised by parliament members.

“The Minister of Foreign Affairs also stressed that the use of any term must be accurate and reflects Malaysian sovereignty and legal rights for the region,” the statement added.
