At least 50 killed in a big fire at the mall in Iraq

Baghdad, July 17 (named) -The 50 people died in a big fire in a supermarket in the city of Al-Kut, Iraq, the German news agency (DPA) reported.

A regional governor said on Thursday that the fire destroyed a mall in the province of the referee, about 170 kilometers southeast of Baghdad, when people shop, according to witnesses who saw them trapped in a building filled with fire and thick smoke.

Some local Iraqi media reported that 77 people were killed and other dozens were injured, while firefighters were still trying to extinguish the fire and eliminate the bodies of the victims from under the ruins.

The cause of the fire has not been known so far.

Among the victims, including women and children, said Governor Referee Mohammed Jamil Al-Miyahi, according to the Iraqi National News Agency (INA).

“We will not compromise with anyone who directly or indirectly causes this incident,” he said, stating three days of mourning in the region.

He added that the initial investigation of the incident would be announced within 48 hours.

Local residents have announced that the fire spread quickly after the failure to comply with safety standards in that place.
