Government Proposes Sixth Form Status Equal to Matriculation – PM Anwar

Anwar, who is also Minister of Finance, said that the proposal had been submitted by the Minister of Education, Fadhlina Sidek.

“In the past, Grade Six was considered part of matriculation or other primary schools, there were allowances. Therefore, the status of Grade Six students should be the same as matriculation.

“Whatever is given to matriculated students must be the same as to Grade Six students,” he said at the PMX Sayang Sabah Program public dialogue session with Inanam Youth here today.

The Prime Minister said the government also plans to establish a Sixth Form College in Sabah equipped with student dormitory facilities.

At the recent Dewan Rakyat Conference, Fadhlina informed that the Ministry of Education is reviewing the potential of making Keningau an education center including considering the establishment of a Sixth Form College in the district.

This move is in line with the government’s desire to expand post-secondary learning opportunities for rural students.

Anwar said all development, including the provision of educational infrastructure such as upgrading poor schools in the state, was the result of good cooperation between the Federal Government and the Sabah Government.

He said Sabah’s young generation needed to be equipped with knowledge and skills because the educated generation would not only be able to advance themselves and their families, but also contribute to the development of the state and nation.
