Mufti serving the longest in Singapore, Syed Isa died at the age of 87 years
Singapore, July 7 (named) – Mufti served the longest in Singapore, Syed Isa Mohamed, died on Monday at the age of 87 years.
In a media statement, the Singaporean Islamic Religious Council (Muis) said his death was a big loss for the Muslim community and the country.
“Muis is very sad about the end of the passage.
Syed Isa served as Singapore Mufti from 1972 to 2010.
During his service period, he oversees the formation of various important institutions that shape the life of the Muslim community, including the system of determining the Islamic calendar, the development of zakat collection and distribution, social development programs for the poor and mosque construction funds.
He also played an important role in WAQF property management and development and was a leader in the formation of an internationally recognized halal certification system.
Syed Isa also touched the fatwa committee which provided solutions to complex problems, as well as the main supporters of the inter-religious harmony.
He was a member of the Singapore Religious Council (IRO) in 1975 and was appointed president in 1993.
From 1992 to 2010, he was also a member of the Presidential Council for the harmony of religion.
In his office, Syed Isa was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) in 1982 and the Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 2009.
He also received a lifetime of Iro for his efforts to strengthen religious relations and was given a medal in 2011.
Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong also expressed his appreciation for Syed Isa’s service to the Malay/Muslim community in the country.
“His leadership has helped form important institutions, strengthen religious administration and support the growth and development of our Malay/Muslim community.
“He left a prolonged inheritance through the generation of leaders and scholars he guided,” Wong said in condolences to the family of the deceased through Facebook.
