The importance of prayer in Islam
In every step of a Muslim’s life, prayer is an invaluable spiritual force. That is proof of the servant’s dependence on the Creator. When performing Umrah, the opportunity to pray in the most desired place is a great gift that should not be wasted.
Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an:
“And if My servants ask you about Me, then (answer), verily I am near. I answer the prayers of those who pray when they pray to Me…” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 186)
This verse emphasizes that Allah is near and ready to answer the prayers of His servants, especially if they are done in noble places.
Sahih Hadith about the Mustajab Prayer Place
The Prophet ﷺ has taught that there are certain places that have special privileges in terms of having prayers answered. When performing Umrah, here are some mustajab places that should be used:
- Multazam
Multazam is the area between the Black Stone and the Kaaba door. Narrated from Ibn Abbas radhiyallahu ‘anhu:
“Between the Black Stone and the door of the Kaaba is called Multazam. No one prays in that place unless it is granted.” (HR. Ahmad and Al-Baihaqi)
This is where worshipers press their chests and hands to the walls of the Kaaba, offering prayers with great hope.
- Hijriyah Ismail
This semi-circular area next to the Kaaba was once part of the original Kaaba building built by the Prophet Ibrahim. It is a place full of grace. Praying in it has its own virtues.
- Maqam Ibrahim
God said:
“And make part of Maqam Ibrahim a place of prayer…” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 125)
After praying two rak’ahs of sunnah prayer behind Maqam Ibrahim, this is the right time to pray with full devotion.
- Raudhah at the Nabawi Mosque
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Between my house and my pulpit is a garden among the gardens of heaven.” (HR. Bukhari and Muslim)
Raudhah is a place full of peace and tranquility. The prayers offered there are believed to be very effective.
- Mount Shafa and Marwah
When standing on Shafa and Marwah in the sa’i sequence, the congregation is encouraged to pray as taught by the Prophet ﷺ. Sa’i time is when the heart is so soft, full of hope, and surrendered to God.
Ulama’s Advice Regarding Prayer Places and Mustajab
Imam Ibn Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
“Prayer is the weapon of the believer, the pillar of religion, and the light of heaven and earth.”
Meanwhile Imam Nawawi emphasized the importance of paying attention to time and place in prayer:
“One of the reasons why prayers are answered is praying in a noble place and at a blessed time.”
These two great scholars remind us that the opportunity to be in the Holy Land is a golden moment to increase prayer.
Taking Advantage of the Umrah Moment in the Present
In this modern era, busyness often makes the heart careless from asking Allah. But when you are in Haramain, you feel a different atmosphere—the air, light, and flowing spiritual energy bring the soul closer to God.
Take advantage of every moment, especially at night after tahajjud, before the call to prayer, and between prayers. Congregants can write a list of important prayers before leaving, so they don’t forget them when they are at the mustajab place.
Closing: Wisdom and Invitation
Umrah is not just a physical journey, but a spiritual journey towards closeness to Allah. Prayer is a bridge between a servant and his God. Pray with a fervent heart, full of hope, and confident that it will be answered.
“Pray to Me, I will surely receive it for you.” (QS. Ghafir: 60)
May every step in the Holy Land be the opening of blessings, and every prayer spoken in a holy place will be the cause of the fulfillment of hopes and goodness in the afterlife.
Happy Umrah, may Allah grant all your prayers.
