Russian earthquake 8.8M: Tsunami waves arrive in Papua, Indonesia
The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) ordered the presence of a tsunami wave at the Port of Sarmi, Papua in the evening.
“The tsunami was ordered to take a tsunami gauge at the Port of Sarmi, a height of about 19 centimeters,” said the BMKG earthquake and tsunami director, Daryono.
He added that the detection made showed that the tsunami waves had arrived in Indonesian waters.
The detected wave is an impact on an 8.8 magnitude earthquake that triggered a tsunami reported in Kamchatka Province in Russia today.
BMKG which was reported had issued a warning that the earthquake had the potential to cause a tsunami incident in Indonesia to be careful.
The status states that the height of the tsunami wave may be less than 0.5 meters.
The body also hoped that the tsunami incident would occur during the day or on Wednesday afternoon.
According to CNN Indonesia, the issuance of published involving the coastal area covers the regions of Papua, West Papua, North Maluku, North Sulawesi and Garontalo.
The warning also asked the residents to stay away from the beach until the warning was removed.
Based on the estimated initial BMKG, the first tsunami waves are often not the largest, but residents are advised to be in a safe location in a radius of about 1 kilometer from the coast.
