The meaning and priority of qurban »Nabawi Noble

Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala says in surah al-kautsar verse 2:

So roll it for your Lord
“Then pray to your Lord and slaughter him.” (Surah Al-Kautsar: 2)

This verse shows orders from Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala so that His servants establish prayer and slaughter animals as a form of worship. Regarding the purpose of this verse, Shaykh Abdullah Alu Basssaam explained that some of the interpretation scholars argues, what is meant by slaughtering animals in the verse is the implementation of the qurban service after the implementation of Eid al -Adha prayer. This opinion is narrated from the big figures in the world of interpretation, such as Qatadah, Atha ‘, and Ikrimah, as mentioned in several references to jurisprudence such as Taisirul ‘Allaam, Tawddhul ahkaam ahkaamAnd Sahih Fiqh Sunnah.

Understanding Qurban (Al-Audh-Hiyah)

In the term fiqh, animals that are slaughtered as a form of worship on certain days are known as Al-Audh-Hiyah. Al-Audh-Hiyah in terms of livestock that are slaughtered on the Eid al-Adha and on the days of Tasyriq (11, 12, and 13 Dhulhijjah) with the aim of closer to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala because of the virtue of that time. This is explained in some fiqh literature such as Al-Wajiz And Sahih Fiqh Sunnah.

Preference

Qurban worship has great priority before Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala. ‘Aisha Radhiyallahu’ Anha tells that the Prophet Muhammad Sallallaahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam said:

“There was no exercise by Adam’s son on the day of Adha that God loved more than the massacre of qurban.
(Tirmidzi Hours, Ibn Majah, and Al-Hakim; declared authentic in Tawddhul ahkaam ahkaam)

The scholars also explained that the sacrificial worship on Eid al -Adha is more important than alms worth the price of qurban animals, even if the alms are more in terms of number. This is because the core of the sacrificial worship is to draw closer to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala through the implementation of His Sharia which is very great. In addition, the slaughter of qurban animals also emphasizes the Islamic Shi’ar and is more in accordance with the sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, as explained in Sahih Fiqh Sunnah And Syarh Al-Mumti ‘.
