Three Car Accidents: Mother’s Heart Moves When Child’s GPS Stops Turning On
JOHOR BAHRU, 27 Dec (Bernama) — A mother’s instinct when her son’s global positioning system (GPS) stopped working turned out to be correct when it became an early sign of tragedy involving the late Ammar Azwar Asri, 21, who died in an accident involving three vehicles at Kilometer 45.6 of the Senai-Desaru Toll Road, early this morning.
The victim’s uncle, Suhaimi Abu Naim, 58, said his younger brother, Zeilawani felt bad when Ammar Azwar’s cellphone GPS movement was not working since 05.17 before making several telephone calls but to no avail.
“The mother tried to think positively, assuming that her child’s cellphone battery had run out. However, her anxiety became stronger so she checked the last location via the Google application before contacting our younger brother who served as an auxiliary police officer to check the area.
“The results of the examination at the last location, the GPS stopped, then I was told there was a traffic accident and my nephew was involved,” he said when met by journalists in the yard of the Forensic Section of Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI), here, today.
According to the retired military officer, Ammar, who was driving a Proton Saga, was on his way back to the village for a holiday and to attend several family events including his cousin’s engagement and a prayer ceremony.
However, Suhaimi said that the deceased was initially reluctant to go home early in the morning when the incident occurred and stated that he wanted to rest first before continuing his journey.
Describing the personality of the deceased, he said Ammar Azwar was a cheerful figure who was liked by many people.
“He was the source of laughter in the family. His loss was shocking and difficult to accept.
“As far as I know, the deceased had just worked as a technician at Rapid Pengerang and the last time we met was last week when attending a family member’s wedding,” he said, also informing that the deceased was expected to be buried at the Kampung Parit Siba Cemetery, Batu Pahat this evening.
Previously, Seri Alam Police Chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said that the accident involving three vehicles at Kilometer 45.6 of the Senai-Desaru Highway this morning was thought to be the result of one of the vehicles entering the opposite lane, resulting in a collision that claimed two lives.
He said that his party received information about an incident involving Proton Wira, Proton Saga and Perodua Myvi cars at around 05.35.
When contacted, Mohd Sohaimi said that apart from Ammar Azwar, the deceased was known to be the driver of the Proton Wira, Yen Jian Yao, 19, from Kangkar Pulai, while three car passengers were reported to have suffered serious injuries, namely Angel Loo An Qi, 15, Wong Teck Ong, 17, and one other person whose identity was not yet known.
Two victims who were driving a Perodua Myvi car also suffered injuries, namely Nur Nalea Nazlin Mahmud, 23 years old, an engineer at the Rapid Pengerang Oil & Gas Project, and Mohamad Adam Satiman, 25 years old, a machine installation technician who worked at the same place.
