Visit to Italy, France and Brazil succeeded in achieving goals – PM Anwar

Rio de Janeiro, 8 Julai (named) – The official visit of Prime Minister Datuk Series Anwar Ibrahim to Italy, France and Brazil has reached its target.

Anwar said that in addition to strengthening bilateral cooperation, this visit also opened new opportunities in attracting investment and increasing Malaysian trade

“The visit, which began in Italy on July 1, also succeeded in increasing the visibility of Malaysia as the chairman of ASEAN,” he told a press conference during an official visit to Italy, France and Brazil which began on July 1.

He said a series of visits also opened a wider network for Malaysian companies to expand its operations to the international market.

As a result of a three -day working visit to Italy, the investment potential of more than RM8 billion was produced, while in France, the potential for investment potential was estimated at around RM4 billion.

During the visit, the Prime Minister was accompanied by five cabinet ministers, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Minister of Transportation Anthony Loke, Minister of Agriculture and Food Datuk Series Mohamad Sabu, Defense Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Tengku Minister of Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Azrul.

Also participating in the delegation is Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.

The business delegation consists of representatives of leading Malaysian companies and innovative companies, including Petronas, National False Cadd, National Development Staff (TNB), Maybank, FGV, YTL Power and Sunway.

Anwar’s first official visit to Italy was at the invitation of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and aimed at strengthening bilateral relations in various strategic sectors.

Besides focusing on investment and trade, Anwar, who is also the Minister of Finance, also discussed geopolitical issues with leaders.

He said Malaysia had expressed a firm attitude about humanitarian issues in West Asia, especially about Gaza and attacks on Iran.

According to Anwar, Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva also similar in voicing concerns about the situation in Gaza who have sacrificed about 56,000 lives.

“Macron has made a statement, but Meloni stated an agreement to stop the attack. He mentioned the Israeli attack, supporting peace and principles of the two countries’ solutions, which was intended to recognize the Palestinian state,” he said.

Commenting on some claims that the visit was more profitable for European countries, especially in connection with the purchase of aircraft, Anwar explained that the step had long -term benefits to Malaysia.

“Booking aircraft is carried out by companies such as AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines, but the government also wants Malaysia to benefit directly,” he said.

Anwar said Malaysia wanted aircraft suppliers such as Airbus and Embraer to make the country a center for maintenance, improvement and repair (MRO), training and supply chains.

In Brazil, during the peak of BRICS leaders, Malaysia also received attention when Anwar was given the opportunity to speak at the BRICS business forum which was also attended by the President of Brazil.

“This forum was inaugurated with the main speech by the President of Brazil, and Malaysia was given priority even though it was not a member of BRIC.”

According to Anwar, he took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of justice between developed and developing countries, as well as the governance of artificial intelligence technology.

A visit to Brazil also opened the door for Anwar to meet several world leaders and the head of the international.

In Rio de Janeiro, Anwar met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and his colleagues from India Narendra Modi and Pham Minh Chinh from Vietnam and Mostafa Madboy (Egypt).

After a meeting with the President of the New Development Bank (NDB) Dilma Rousseff, Anwar said that the decision of whether Malaysia would join the bank will be made after a detailed study by the Malaysian Bank Negara.

According to Anwar, several Malaysian companies such as Petronas and Yinson Production have succeeded in penetrating the Brazilian market.
