Earthquake Segamat: 15 Royal Buildings Damaged, Recovering Half Million
Segamat, September 8 (named) – As many as 15 government buildings have been identified suffering small damage with the estimated cost of RM550,000, after the weak earthquake that struck the area from 24 to 30 August.
Deputy Minister of Work Datuk Series Dr. Ahmad Maslan said the report was based on the inspection of the Segamat Public Works Department (JKR) on September 3 in a building involving Segamat Hospital, Bandar Putra Health Clinic, Segamat Community College, Kadi District Office, School and Government Quarter.
“Most of them are fractures that have increased the number of cracks after earthquakes, damage to small impacts and do not affect the integrity of building structures.
“This building is also safe to use and does not pose a security risk to consumers and building users has also been reminded to continue to monitor the environment and report to JKR in the event of a new discovery,” he said.
He said this in a press conference after hearing the briefing about disasters and visiting government buildings suffering from earthquake damage.
Ahmad said that repair work would be carried out with the provisions of the affected ministry and JKR provided technical support to ensure the process runs smoothly.
“The JKR disaster movement space has also been activated immediately to monitor the situation 24 hours a day after the first earthquake was reported on August 24.
“JKR Segamat is currently specifying the reports and proposals for repair work while continuing to maintain the monitoring of careful road assets and bridges,” he said.
In addition to the building, the investigation found that no damage was reported on road and bridge assets as a result of monitoring 325 kilometers of Federal Road, 242.11 kilometers of state roads and 71 bridges and bridges in the earthquake radius, he said.
Ahmad said seismic factors had been considered in the design of the government’s building and bridge since the 1998 MS National Appendix en enforcement in September 2017.
“New buildings and bridges under the 12th Malaysia plan were built using high quality materials and were designed according to the level of anger at their respective locations,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said the Segamat District Office also received 62 small damage reports in private residences and two surau following weak vibrations but the estimated loss had not been specified.
