Datuk Manoharan Periasamy Appointed as Chairman of Malaysia Tourism
Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture YB Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing announced the inauguration of YBhg. Datuk Manoharan Periasamy as Chairman of the Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board (Tourism Malaysia) effective December 8 2025.
This appointment is in line with the provisions of Section 5(1)(a), Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board Act 1992 (Act 481).
Datuk Manoharan, who previously served as Director General of Tourism in Malaysia, replaced YBhg. Datuk (Dr.) Yasmin Mahmood.
With extensive experience in the public service and tourism sectors for more than 30 years, he has held several important positions including Senior Director of the International Promotion Division (Asia & Africa), Senior Director of the Advertising & Digital Division, Director of the Package Development Division and Director of the Corporate Communications Division.
Apart from that, he also played an important role in strengthening Malaysia’s presence in the South Asian market through his positions as Director of Tourism Malaysia Mumbai and Director of Tourism Malaysia New Delhi in India from 2000 to early 2016.
YBhg. Datuk Manoharan expressed his commitment to assume responsibility with full dedication.
“I really appreciate the trust given through this appointment. The trust entrusted is very great, especially in the success and implementation of VM2026
“I am committed to working with management and all Malaysian Tourism people to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a major tourist destination,” he said.
Inauguration of YBhg. Datuk Manoharan Periasamy is expected to strengthen the strategic direction of Malaysian Tourism, especially in efforts to strengthen coordination of national tourism promotion programs and activities ahead of the implementation of the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign.
