Iran and the US Race to Find the Crew of a Crashed American Fighter Jet
TEHERAN — Iranian and US military forces raced against each other on Saturday to find the crew of the first US fighter jet to crash on Iranian territory since the war began.
Earlier, Iran claimed to have shot down the F-15 fighter jet, while US media reported that the country’s special forces rescued one of its two crew members, and the other was still missing.
Iran’s military also said it had shot down a US A-10 ground attack aircraft in the Gulf, and US media reported that the pilot had been rescued.
The war, which erupted more than a month ago after a US-Israeli attack on Iran killed supreme leader Ali Khamenei, sparked a backlash that spread the conflict across the Middle East, rocking the global economy and impacting millions of people around the world.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the loss of the F-15.
However, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said US President Donald Trump had been briefed.
Meanwhile Trump told NBC that the loss of the F-15s would not affect negotiations with Iran.
So far, the US has lost several aircraft during operations in Iran, including one fighter jet downed in Iraq and three F-15s shot down by its allies.
