On this occasion, let us dive in more about one of the greatest verses in the Qur’an, namely the verse of the chair. This verse is certainly familiar to most of us. In fact, many of us have memorized it since childhood.
Verses of the chair, contained in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 255, have a very noble position in the Qur’an. The specialty of this verse is not only because of its extraordinary content, but also because of the great event that accompanies it when it is revealed. The meaning behind the name “verse chair”
Before entering priority, the best is to understand why this verse is called “verse chair.” Adverb Chair In Arabic does not refer to normal seats as in everyday meaning. This word is a symbol of strength, majesty, and absolute authority. Because the throne seats are used by the kings as the highest symbol of power, in this context, chairs show how great and strong Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala as the ruler of the universe. Therefore, it is not surprising that this verse is called the “chair verse” as a representation of God’s greatness and uniqueness.
Event decrease in chair verse
This verse is heard as follows:
God is not God but He is a living environment ۚ Don’t take it for a year, or sleep ۚ He has what is in heaven and what is the same person ۚ He knows what is between their hands and what they are replacing themselves. Have them ۚ and that is great, the highest
It means:
“Allah, there is no God (who has the right to worship) unless He is the one who lives and He continues to care for (His creatures); He does not sleep. He knows what is in heaven and on earth. No one can mediate without his permission. Both, and he is the highest, great.” (Surah Al-Baqarah: 255)
The chair verse was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam when he was on the way of migrating from the city of Mecca to the city of Medina. At the time of this verse, there was an extraordinary event and not as usual. The angel Gabriel who brought revelation this time was accompanied by thousands of other angels who lined up neatly accompanying him. This is a clear proof of the glory of the chair verse.
In a number of narrations it was stated that when this verse came down, idols collapsed by themselves, demons and devils were shaken violently, and Arsy trembled. In one history, it was stated that the devil himself recognized the majesty of the chair verse. He said that this verse became a big enemy for him, able to burn his body, and make it difficult for them to tempt humans, especially if humans always take refuge in God by reading the verse.
Because of the greatness of this verse, the Prophet Muhammad Sallallaahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam immediately ordered Zaid bin Tsabit to write and spread seats to all Muslims.
The virtue of reading the chair verse
In a hadith narrated by Abu Umamah, the Prophet Muhammad Sallallaahu ‘Alaihi Wa Sallam said that anyone who reads the chair after performing fardu prayers, no one stopped him from entering heaven except death. (Hours. An-nasa’i)
In another authentic hadith narrated by Imam Al-Bukhari, it is stated that Abu Hurairah had been guarded from the disorder of Satan throughout the night for reading the verse of chairs before going to sleep. This is a sign that this verse is very effective for self -protection from jinn and demons.
Prophet Sallallaahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam also asked Ubay bin Ka’ab, “What is the biggest verse in the Qur’an?” Ubay answered, “Verses of the chair.” The Prophet patted his chest, saying, “O Abu Mundzir, I hope you are happy with the knowledge you have.” (Muslim history hadith)
In another narration from At-Tirmidzi, it is stated that the majesty of the chair verse because the verse is kalamullah, which is a direct word from God. Whereas God’s words are certainly far greater than His creation, including heaven and earth.
The benefits of reading chair verse in everyday life
Some of the virtues and benefits of reading the chair verse regularly include:
