The Sultan of Selangor Outlines Three Directions for Decisions on State Pig Farming Operations
SHAH ALAM, Jan 12 (Bernama) — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah ordered pig farming activities in the Tanjong Sepat area, Kuala Langat to be phased out and operations moved entirely to Bukit Tagar in accordance with the plan and to comply with all relevant legal requirements and regulations.
Istana Alam Shah in its statement today informed that His Majesty also ordered the conduct of a detailed study and comprehensive census based on valid data to identify the statistics and actual quantity of the need and demand for pork specifically for non-Muslim consumption in Selangor.
“His Majesty emphasized that there is no aim or plan to export these livestock products. The findings of this research should be used as the main basis in determining the scale, capacity and extent of pig farming operations in Bukit Tagar, so that they remain at a reasonable and controllable level,” according to the statement.
The decision is one of three matters approved by His Majesty regarding the management and direction of pig farming operations in Selangor, taking into account the interests of the community, environmental welfare and social harmony in the state.
The decision was taken after the Sultan of Selangor received State Infrastructure and Agriculture Officer Datuk Izham Hashim and State Local Government and Tourism Officer Datuk Ng Suee Lim at Istana Bukit Kayangan here today.
Meanwhile, the statement informed the third thing emphasized by His Majesty is that the Selangor State Government will not provide any financial allocation or investment for future pig farming operations including in the Bukit Tagar area.
“All related matters must be carried out without involving state public funds,” according to the statement.
Sultan Sharafuddin also hopes that all parties involved can implement the decision with full responsibility, prudence and law abiding, in order to ensure community welfare, environmental sustainability and harmony in multiracial society in this country is always maintained.
Previously, the Sultan of Selangor expressed his sadness and did not agree with the state government’s plan to allow pig farming operations in Tanjong Sepat, Kuala Langat starting this year, before moving to Bukit Tagar in 2030.
