The Virtues of the Raudhah Prayer » The Honorable Prophet

When someone gets the glorious opportunity to visit one of the holy cities that is full of blessings, namely the City of Medina Al-Munawwarah, it is highly recommended for him to increase his prayers to Allah Subḥānahu Wa Taʿālā. In this city full of mercy and blessings, there are many locations that are believed to have the privilege of being places where prayers are answered, efficacious places that have been silent witnesses to the struggle and preaching of our lord, Prophet Muḥammad Ṣallallāhu ʿAlaihi Wa Sallam.

One of the most special and well-known places in Medina as an efficacious place for prayer is Raudhah, a holy area inside the Nabawi Mosque. Raudhah, or what is often referred to as the Garden of Heaven, is a place that has a very noble position in the sight of Allah Subḥānahu Wa Taʿālā and is loved by Muslims throughout the world.

If you get a very rare and glorious opportunity to enter the Raudhah area, then make the best use of this moment to pray with all your heart, full of devotion and sincerity. Ask Allah Subḥānahu Wa Taʿālā whatever your wishes are, both for matters of the world and the afterlife, because this place is believed to be one of the locations that is very close to the place of prayer.

In the works Seeking Blessings on the Apostle’s Earth written by Ahmad Hawassy, it is explained that Raudhah is one of the most venerable places in the city of Medina. The area is only about 330 square meters, but its value cannot be measured by worldly standards. This place is the main destination for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims from all over the world whenever they have the opportunity to be at the Nabawi Mosque. In fact, they were willing to wait a long time and jostle just to be able to pray two rak’ahs and pray at that place.

Even though there is no evidence that explicitly states the priority of praying at Raudhah, its priority is stated in the hadiths which explain the priority of praying at the Nabawi Mosque in general. One of the most famous hadiths, as narrated by Imam Bukhari in his Sahih book, mentions the words of the Prophet Muhammad Ṣallallāhu ʿAlaihi Wa Sallam:

“Prayers at my mosque (the Nabawi Mosque) are 1,000 times more important than prayers at other mosques, except at the Grand Mosque. Prayers at the Grand Mosque are 100,000 times more important than other mosques.”
(HR. Ahmad, Ibnu Khuzaimah, and Hakim)

In the Raudhah area, the congregation is allowed to perform various sunnah prayers, both absolute sunnah prayers and hajat prayers, as is permitted for sunnah prayers in Hijr Ismail. This shows how vast the blessings of this place are and how great an opportunity Allah Subḥānahu Wa Taʿālā has given for His servants to worship and get closer to Him.

Raudhah is also mentioned as Paradise Garden because of the words of the Prophet Muḥammad Ṣallallāhu ʿAlaihi Wa Sallam which stated that the area between his house and his pulpit was a garden among the gardens of heaven. The scholars interpret this term in two senses, namely literally and figuratively. Literally, there is an opinion that believes that Raudhah will be transferred to heaven later on the Day of Judgment. Meanwhile, figuratively, Raudhah is a garden of heaven because this place is filled with goodness, dhikr, prayer and knowledge, just like the atmosphere in heaven.

Another special feature of Raudhah is that this place is the road that the Prophet Muhammad Ṣallallāhu ʿAlaihi Wa Sallam often passed when walking from his residence to the pulpit at the Nabawi Mosque. In this place he taught knowledge, did dhikr, advised the community, and did other pious deeds. So it is not surprising that this place has a very special position in the hearts of Muslims.

For the guests of Allah Subḥānahu Wa Taʿālā who have experienced the blessings of Medina, visiting Raudhah is not just a worship agenda, but is a moment full of deep spirituality and touches the heart. So, never waste this moment.
