Britain suspended free trade negotiations with Israel, the Gaza crisis as ‘disgusting’
London, May 20 (named) – The British government on Tuesday has issued the most decisive criticism of Israel’s attack on Gaza and the West Bank, describing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as “disgusting” and announced the official suspension of the free trade agreement (FTA) with Israel, Anadolu Ajansi.
Speaking at the House of Representatives, Foreign Minister David Lammy described the ongoing Israeli military campaign as “dangerous, disgusting and cruel.”
He warned that Israel’s policy to justify “the minimum amount of food to avoid hunger” to Gaza is a intentional famine strategy.
“Prime Minister Netanyahu said they would control the Gaza Strip and only allow the minimum amount of food. The Deputy Speaker Mrs., I quoted Netanyahu’s words: ‘Enough to avoid hunger’,” Lammy told parliament members.
“Unacceptable. This is unbalanced. This is really unproductive.”
Lammy also warned that Israeli military tactics would not be able to defeat Hamas, but would only “leave the orphanage and trauma – an easy target for Hamas’s recruitment.”
He said Britain consistently urged Israel to “change the way” since the attack on Gaza continued. “We have explained that Israel’s actions were unacceptable,” he said.
“We urge the Netanyahu government … History will judge you – to prevent assistance, expand war. This cannot be maintained, and must be stopped. Prime Minister Netanyahu, ending this restriction now,” he said.
“We will continue to take action against those who commit violations of heinous human rights,” he added.
Lammy also announced new sanctions for three Israeli settlers, including famous activist Daniella Weiss, two illegal posts and two groups accused of inciting violence against Palestine.
Restrictions include prohibitions and freezing of assets.
It was made after a wave of attack by settlers-more than 1,800 attacks since January, according to UN data (PBB).
The British government also officially abandoned negotiations in a new free trade agreement with Israel.
“It is impossible to continue negotiations with a new FTA agreement with the Netanyahu government who continued extreme policies in the West Bank and Gaza,” Lammy said.
He also reiterated the call for a ceasefire to be implemented immediately and all hostages were released unconditionally by Hamas, insisting that “the only way towards long-term peace and security for Palestine and Israel is through a two-country solution.”
