UPSI Releases the Book “UPSI Grieving”, Immortalizing the Tragedy as a Guide to Facing the Crisis
PASIR PUTEH, 7 June (Bernama) — Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) published a book entitled UPSI Berduka which documents the traffic accident tragedy involving its students in Gerik, Perak last year as a reference and guide for future crisis management.
UPSI Deputy Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff said that the book, which took almost 10 months to complete, contained a chronology of events, seven phases of crisis management actions carried out by the university together with various agencies, as well as a collection of expressions and experiences of the parties involved.
He said that the publication of the book was also a form of documentation as well as a field study that recorded the experiences of the closest family, survivors, volunteers, rescue agencies and frontline workers throughout the handling of the tragedy.
“This book does not just tell the experience of one party, but rather collects the voices of the majority of those involved from the first day the tragedy occurred until the process of resolving various matters related to the victims.
“It is hoped that this can serve as a guide if an incident like this occurs in the future, although we hope that something similar will not happen again,” he told journalists after the UPSI Gathering and Gathering Event with the Grief of the 2025 Gerik Incident in Tok Bali here today.
He said the book was planned to be launched by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir in the near future at the UPSI campus.
Meanwhile, Md Amin said that the UPSI Bereavement Fund, which was formed after the tragedy, had managed to collect donations of around RM2 million from various parties since the first day of the incident.
He said that assistance from these funds had been distributed in stages to all 42 victims and their immediate families, including injured victims and the families of the dead.
“Today we are disbursing the remaining remaining funds amounting to RM210,000 with each recipient receiving RM5,000 equally to ensure justice for all affected parties,” he said.
He said the fund would officially close this August, but the university was still accepting donations until that time.
In related developments, he said that the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT), through the Special Team formed after the tragedy, had taken several corrective steps to increase student safety.
“Among the efforts made are prohibiting students from returning home in the middle of the night, implementing a bus rental reporting system to the university, and implementing online learning flexibility before and after short holidays,” he said.
He said the approach aims to reduce the risk of hasty travel in addition to ensuring the welfare and safety of students is always a priority.
An accident in the early hours of June 9 2025 involving a bus carrying students from Jertih, Terengganu to Tanjung Malim, Perak with vehicles occurred on Jalan Raya East-West, Gerik, Perak and resulted in 15 students dying.
PakarPBN
A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
