Indonesia explained rumors for buying Jet J-10 Chinese fighter jets

Jakarta – The Indonesian Ministry of Defense has explained that the country has decided to buy a Chinese J-10 fighter jet, emphasizing that the problem is still in the initial evaluation phase, CNN Indonesia reported.

Deputy Minister of Defense, Donny Ermawan Taufanto, said that the rumors began after the visit of the new Air Force staff, Marshal Tonny Harjono, to China.

He said at that time Tonny saw the plane in an air exhibition, and Indonesia was also offered to buy it.

“It was still rumors. At that time, the Air Force Chief of Staff visited China, at the air exhibition he saw the plane and we were also offered,” Donny said at the Ministry of Defense, Jakarta Central on Wednesday (4 June).

He explained that the Ministry of Defense is currently evaluating the possibility of using J-10 fighter jet as part of an effort to strengthen national defense.

Donny stressed that Indonesia is an independent country, and is not bound by any block or coalition, so it is not a problem to buy the main equipment of the weapons system (defense equipment) from any country, including China.

“We are neutral countries, do not support any country, do not have an alliance, so we can obtain arms resources from any country, including China,” he said.

“If after the evaluation we find this plane is good, meets the criteria, and the price is reasonable, then why not?” Add Donny.

He also explained some important criteria in the selection of fighter jets, including the ability of aircraft, flight distances, and types of weapons that can be carried.

“About the ability, the extent to which he can fly, and the types of weapons that can be carried, all need to be examined.

“So far, we have not reached that level. This is a new supply stage and we have seen the possibility. We have not sent a team for research -deph,” he said.
