Palestinian Photojournalist Killed in Israeli Attack on Gaza

GAZA CITY, December 3 (Bernama-Anadolu) — A Palestinian journalist was killed in an Israeli attack on the southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday, despite a ceasefire agreement under US President Donald Trump’s Gaza Plan, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.

A medical source told Anadolu that photojournalist Mahmoud Wadi was killed in an Israeli drone strike in the center of Khan Yunis, an area outside the Israeli-controlled yellow zone.

Wadi’s father, Issam, described the Israeli attack as “an earthquake that shook the tent”.

“I never thought I would lose Mahmoud, who was not only my son but also a friend. He grew up in a photography studio.

“Mahmoud took photos in a safe area (not under Israeli control according to the ceasefire agreement), but Israel does not honor any promises or pledges, their whole life is full of deception and betrayal,” he said.

Issam described his son’s killing as a “criminal act” and blamed the Israeli army for the incident.

A friend of the deceased journalist, Muhammad Abu Ubaid, a correspondent for Al-Alam TV in Gaza, said Wadi was renowned for his humanitarian work.

“He may not be known to everyone, but the poor and suffering know him because he devotes his time to helping them. He is a person with a noble heart,” he said.

Abu Ubaid said he and Wadi had planned to meet at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis but were later told that Wadi had died.

“The world remains silent while occupying forces continue to kill journalists even after the ceasefire agreement,” he said.

The Gaza Government Media Office said Wadi’s death brings the number of Palestinian journalists killed in Gaza since October 2023 to 257.

The office condemned what it described as Israel’s “systematic attacks” on Palestinian journalists and stressed that Israel and several Western governments “take full responsibility.”

The office also called on the international community and global media organizations to condemn the attack, and said that international calls for Israel to stop targeting journalists had been ignored.

Palestinians view the targeting of journalists as an attempt to prevent coverage of what is happening in the region.

The ceasefire agreement took effect on October 10, 2025, ending two years of Israeli attacks that have claimed the lives of more than 70,000 Palestinians and injured more than 171,000 others since October 2023, according to Gaza authorities.

Israel is accused of repeatedly violating the agreement by shooting at civilians in territory outside its control, while the Palestinian group Hamas says it remains committed to the agreement and urged the US to pressure Israel to comply.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 356 Palestinians have been killed and more than 900 others injured in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire began.
