UMNO Election Held After GE16 – Ahmad Zahid
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 16 (Bernama) — UMNO will only hold party elections after the 16th General Election (GE16), said UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, said that amendments to the party’s constitution approved by the UMNO Special General Assembly in 2022 would allow this to be implemented.
We’ll wait after the election. “We have 18 months, the UMNO Constitution is amended, namely after 18 months from the end of the election year or after the election, whichever comes first,” he said.
He expressed this when met by journalists after attending the exchange of memoranda of understanding (MoU) and memoranda of cooperation (MoC) at the same time as the Agricommodity Expo, Women in the Halal Industry here today.
Based on the constitutional amendment, the postponement of elections cannot be more than 18 months from the date the elections are supposed to be held or no more than six months after the elections are held.
The last UMNO election was held in 2023 with no contest for the positions of President and Vice President.
