Unfortunate Location in JRTB Antara Known Certainly for Work on the Levels of this Year – Nanta
Kuala Lumpur, June 10 (named) -The accident that claims the lives of 15 students of Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) yesterday, is one of the Sesa-Barat Roads (JRTB) identified for this year’s improvement work with the allocation of RM55 million.
The Minister of Work Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said various initiatives had also been taken since 2023 to increase the route of gerik-jeli, especially at Fed Federal Road FT04.
He said in June 2023, the allocation of RM30 million was approved to rebuild several routes in JRTB, and two months later, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced an additional RM30 million allocation to increase the route.
“This provision has been used for implementation of improvement and maintenance work in several important parts of FT04,” he said in a submission on Facebook.
He said among the work carried out including re -defining roads and repairing facilities, bridges, street lights and traffic lights in both directions.

Nanta said that all improvement work in FT04 was completed in stages between July and August 2023 which involved the cost of RM55.73 million based on the level of road damage that was evaluated through the ‘Assessment of Pavement Conditions (PCA)’.
In 2024, total RM7.2 million was allocated to implement various improvement work in several other parts on the route.
Nanta said that although the police investigation of the incident was still ongoing, he had received various reactions to road conditions because it was contagious on various social media platforms.
“As I mentioned before, the Ministry will make a full commitment to ensure that road infrastructure is safe and comfortable for road users.
“At the same time, I need to emphasize that road safety is the responsibility of all, including road users,” he said.
Director of the Department of Silver Public Works (JKR) Zamri Mat Kasim said the 385 Solar Street Light Installation project in JRTB including the location of the accident had gone through the tender process for the past two months.
When contacted by the name today, he said the process was at the final stage before the contractor’s appointment was carried out within two to three weeks.
Zamri said JKR had also sent temporary barriers to replace damaged obstacles as a result of the accident and any permanent improvement would be carried out after the investigation was completed.
He said that even though the road was quite dark because there was no electricity supply connection, surface conditions and road furniture such as the Chevron channel and other nameplates in good condition.
“This area has a Chevron, which is an arrow which is a warning or notification about the left or right of the road,” he said.
Zamri also said he was waiting for a full forensic report from the police and Kuala Lumpur JKR headquarters before further action including insurance claims against bus companies would be carried out in the event of negligence.
