Common mistakes that are often made by women during Hajj and Umrah »Nabawi Mulia

First Error: Calculating ihram is the head covering

There are still many Muslim women who do not understand the meaning of ihram correctly. Some of them think that ihram is a kind of hat or head covering when performing the pilgrimage or umrah. Because of this misunderstanding, not a few women are reluctant to release the head covering in any condition, even when they are among fellow women. They are afraid if they open their “ihram”, then their worship will be invalid or imperfect.

In fact, this understanding is clearly wrong. Ihram for women is not a head covering or special clothing that must be worn on the head. Conversely, ihram for women is ordinary clothes that cover the entire body, except the face and palms of the hand – from the wrist to the fingertips. More than just clothes, the true ihram is Meaning To start the pilgrimage or Umrah to the Holy Land of Mecca. When a Muslim woman intends to ihram, it means he has started a series of pilgrims or umrah.

The scholars have also explained that ihram clothes may be replaced and washed if dirty. That is, changing clothes does not cancel the intention of Ihram itself. So, there is nothing wrong if a woman changes her ihram clothes, because what is meant by ihram is the intention in the heart, not the clothing that is physically worn.

Second mistake: excessive fear of hair loss

In a state of berihram, both men and women are prohibited from pulling, cutting, or cutting hair and nails intentionally. However, some women experience excessive concern for this prohibition. They are afraid that if a hair falls accidentally, then their worship becomes damaged. Because of these fear, some of them were even reluctant to take off the veil despite being among fellow women, even when they wanted to take ablution.

Behavior like this is a form of anxiety which is a devil deception. Try to contemplate: how could worship be legitimate if Mobi is not perfect just for fear that hair falls? Is Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala – the Most Merciful and Most Pengkatu – will it refuse someone’s worship just because his hair falls out unintentionally?

Of course not. The reason, the prohibition of cutting hair and nails in an ihram state only occurs when finished on purpose. Therefore, women do not need to feel excessive fear if hair falls naturally, because it is beyond their control.

Third Mistake: Calculating only people outside of ihram can cut hair

Another common mistake is that only people come out of ihram can cut hair. Many women refuse to cut their own hair to get out of ihram, and they also forbid fellow women who are still in ihram to help cut their hair.

In fact, this assumption is baseless. A woman is allowed to cut her own hair as one of the requirements to get out of Ihram after completing a series of worship. In fact, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam once said:

“Let him cut it (his own hair) and then come out of ihram.”
(HR. Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

This hadith clearly shows that a woman can cut her own hair, without having to wait for help from others who are already outside of ihram.

Fourth Error: Not Staying at Muzdalifah Or Not Going To Jamarat

Staying (Mabit) at Muzdalifah and Mina is an important part of the hajj series that should not be underestimated. Mabit at Muzdalifah means to stop for a moment, stay overnight, or stay overnight in the region on the night of 10 Dzulhijjah after completion of the wukuf at Arafat. This is a form of compliance with Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala in perfecting the pilgrimage.

During the time of the Prophet Sallallaahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam, only those who really suffer from diseases such as women who were sick, advanced, or zamzam workers who could not be trusted at Muzdalifah. However, at this time, many congregations do not live in Muzdalifah, even until morning, without reason to be permitted in law.

This is very unfortunate, especially if done because of feeling lazy, fear of crowd, or ignorance. Yet if we are given health and ability by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, then we should be serious in carrying out every stage of the pilgrimage as well as possible. Do not let laziness or fear block the perfection of this great worship.

Four of the mistakes above are examples of some of the confusion that women often do during pilgrimage and Umrah worship. Hopefully by knowing these things, we can improve ourselves and straighten our intentions and understanding. God willing, we all hope to get the pilgrimage and Umrah received by Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.
