RCI Issue Discussed in Cabinet, Following Official Statement – PM Anwar
KAJAANG, Feb 27 (Bernama) — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that the proposal to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) regarding matters involving the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), had been discussed at today’s Cabinet meeting.
He said discussions were progressing smoothly and an official statement would be issued soon to explain the matter.
“Earlier we had a good discussion, later there will be a statement (to be released),” he told reporters after performing Friday prayers at the Pekan Kajang Mosque, here today.
Previously, DAP Secretary General Anthony Loke reportedly proposed at today’s Cabinet meeting that the RCI be formed to investigate allegations of a ‘corporate mafia’.
The ‘corporate mafia’ allegations revolve around allegations that senior MACC officials orchestrated a campaign of intimidation, pressuring executives and shareholders of public companies to resign or sell their shares at deep discounts to a network of connected businessmen.
